Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg' is a deciduous shrub or small tree with unusualfoliage of 7-9 pointed, sharply-serrated, lobed leaves resembles an openhand with outstretched fingers. Emerging rich and deep reddish purple inspring, the leaves hold their extraordinary color until late summer andturn vibrant crimson-red in autumn before shedding. More sun tolerant thanmost, this cultivar can be exposed to full sun with practically no leafscorch. A favorite for landscaping, 'Trompenburg' enjoys an upright habitand makes a striking focal point. Grows up to 4.5-7.5m tall with a 3-4.5mspread.

Easily grown in moist, organically rich, slightly acidic,well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Grows well in sandy loams.May be grown in full sun but prefers some part afternoon shade. Newfoliage may scorch in full sun locations in hot summers areas, particularlyif soils are not kept consistently moist. Mulch helps retain soil moistureand keep roots cool. Site in locations protected from strong winds. Avoidhot and dry sites. Fertilize in spring before leaves emerge.
