These masses of flowers are borne all along the branches and are a greatsource of nectar for birds, especially Tui and Wax Eye and bees in thewinter months. It can be kept trimmed as a short hedge at 1m or left togrow to its full height of around 2.5m to 3m. You can also trim it as aball shape or pillar, and it is also a very good containerplant.

Planting Guide
Camellias grow and bloom better in partialshade, with shelter from hot afternoon sun. Young plants thrive under theshade of tall trees. Established plants (over 3 years old, vigorous, andshading their own roots) require very little supplemental water but ifrequired make sure the soil is well drained. Shelter from strong winds,particularly near the coast as they do not tolerate salt spray. Feedwith an acid-forming azalea or camellia fertilizer in spring, after theflowers have dropped, and again in the midsummer if growth seems sluggishor foliage looks sparse and begins to lose its deep green color. Camelliasmake great container plants whether outdoors on a terrace or indoors in acool greenhouse. Fill the container with a potting mix containing 50percent or more organic material. Make sure the container has a generousdrainage hole and is the correct size.
