Planting Guide
Thrives in moist, well-drainedsoils, in full sun or part shade. Ideally, Clematis prefer having theirheads in the sun and their feet in the shade'. Keep the roots cool andshaded by other plants or add a layer of pebbles or flat stones at thebase. Quickly grows up to 9m tall in a few seasons. Native to New Zealand.They should be pruned in late winter or early spring and require 'hardpruning': simply cut back the stems to a pair of strong buds about 30cmabove ground level before growth begins in early spring. Cut backimmediately after bloom where self-sown seedlings are a problem. SweetAutumn Clematis can grow quite vigorously to the point of being invasive inwarmer areas of the country.
