Prefers moist, acidic, organically rich soils. Consistent moisture is best(leaf scorch may occur during periods of summer drought). Shrubs have sometolerance for clay soils as long as drainage is good. Promptly remove rootsuckers to prevent colonial spread. It is particularly important to removeroot suckers rising from below a graft union. Prune in spring afterflowering to control shape and size.
Garden Use
Easilygrown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun.Tolerates a wide range of soils except wet, poorly-drained ones. Preferssomewhat infertile loams, but performs well in poor, rocky soils. Sharpdrainage is essential. Plants have shallow fibrous root systems. If bloomis desired, prune very lightly in early spring only as needed.
