Planting Guide
Hydrangeas need moistureretentive soil and a cool, shaded root run. Grow hydrangea plants in anynon alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting byadding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring thatit is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. The large white florets of thehydrangea loves dappled shade and can light up a gloomy corner half undertrees. Prefers sheltered locations although can withstand some exposure andwindy situations. They also make good container plants in wooden tubs.Terracotta pots tend to dry out the roots. Hydrangea blooms from lateJanuary to March. Pruning hydrangeas requires pruning down hard everyspring once the frosts are over. This keeps the hydrangea compact andencourages large flowers. Tipping back by reducing the stems by a third inspring will keep a bigger, leggier bush that produces earlier flowers inlarger numbers - although each will be smaller in size.
